The Pousadas of Portugal form a network of hotels throughout the country and are divided into four different categories: Historic, Historic Design, Nature and Charm Pousadas.
The Historic Pousadas are converted castles, palaces, fortresses or monasteries. The Historic Design Pousadas are properties of historic importance that have been given a modern interior design – often by a famous Portuguese architect. The Nature Pousadas are modern buildings that are located in areas of exceptional natural beauty and the Charm Pousadas are delightful properties that have been beautifully furnished with great attention to detail. All have been tastefully built or carefully modernized with special attention to the traditional character of the building and the particular style of the region.
