The Cyprus Villages Agrotourism Programme
Come and enjoy the real Cyprus and you will learn how the countryfolk live and work. You will master the secret of making halloumi – the unique delicious (more so when grilled) Cyprus cheese or follow Cypriot cookery classes. Join in with the picking of the grape harvest and making wine as well as tasting it not forgetting helping yourself to oranges and lemons straight off the trees. Gather olives and follow the process through to the olive press where you will be given your own pure olive oil to take away.
Get on a bike (yes, with pedals!) to see the country with or without others, or ride a horse (with tuition if required). Join a walking group or be given a map and visit caves and gorges. Explore archaeological sites in the company of others with similar interests or on your own – with or without a guide. Discover little churches famous for their Byzantine frescos, centuries old. You will find archaeological sites nearby, dating back to the Bronze Age as well as the famous Neolithic site of Khirokitia. Have a picnic lunch or eat in the local taverna whenever you wish or wherever you are. Swim at a beach on your own or join others. Why not join a boat trip with a local fisherman for the day.
Stay in a traditional village house or a simple cottage with all mod cons and use a pool nearby. You will find that, whenever possible, environmentally friendly goods and materials are used.
